Some FAQs on Taking a Cruise

Some FAQs on Taking a Cruise

08 November 2011

If you are considering embarking on a cruise but feel you have more questions than answers, perhaps some of these tips will help you decide.

What Exactly is a Cruise?

A cruise is a holiday taken to a destination of your choice aboard a passenger ship. These passenger ships vary in size with most of them being quite large and accommodating a few hundred people or even a few thousand people at any one time. These passenger ships are usually very luxurious in nature and are often the equivalent of five-star hotels.

Where Do Cruise Ships Go?

Cruise ships supply an almost endless choice of places to visit. There are more than 20 major cruise ship lines offering in excess of 7,500 different scheduled destinations. These ships take passengers to a predetermined holiday spot, generally with a number of sightseeing port stops along the way. The entire round trip tour will entail several days at sea, depending on the destination you have chosen.

What is Included with a Cruise?

Most cruises are considered all-inclusive. This means that the price you pay for your cruise includes your cabin (room), three meals a day, snacks, nightly entertainment, activities, fitness facilities, games, use of the onboard swimming pools, casinos, discos, lounges, movie theatre, and other amenities, some adventure activities if your cruise ship offers them, lectures, and ocean transportation between ports of call.

What is Not Included with a Cruise?

The price you initially see for your cruise package is often without the government fees and taxes, so you will need to budget for these. Most often entertainment such as gambling and alcoholic drinks is not included. You will need to bring extra money for tipping the servers. Personal items such as internet use, spas, photos, salon services, shopping, and premium dining are also not included. Airfare and airport transfers are not part of the cost of a cruise.

Is a Cruise a Good Holiday Investment?

Taking a cruise is definitely one of life’s many joys. Today’s modern cruise ships are literally floating five-star hotels with all of the amenities you can imagine. Think impeccable service, great accommodation, non-stop activities, and excellent cuisine combined with endless relaxation. Cruise ships spare no expense when it comes to entertainment, food and of course, onboard safety. There are cruises to suit every budget, which means more holidaymakers are finding cruises to be one of the better holiday deals in travel.

What are Some Cruise Holiday Options?

When choosing a cruise, take into consideration your personal taste and interests. Many cruise ships cater to specific age groups, such as the spring break crowd, the baby boomers, or the retired. Other cruise companies will offer options such as speciality cruises or themes. Some of these options will include cuisine themed cruises, dance, party, music, cultural, chocolate, fine wines, or even educational pursuits.

Where are Some Suggestions to Take a Cruise?

People can literally cruise to the ends of the world and back if they like. There are that many destinations available to choose from. Some of the more popular cruise destinations include Europe, Alaska cruises, sunny locations such as the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and South America, as well as more exotic locations such as Asia and Africa.
