It is true that many cruise lines have similar itineraries and visit many of the same places with the shore excursions they offer, but you can tailor your cruise to your liking before you go so that you are sure to enjoy activities both on board and once on shore.
Pick Your Location, Your Date to Travel, and Your Cruise Line
Before you decide just how you are going to tailor your particular trip to your liking, pick the dates you would like to travel, the location you'd like to go to (such as the Caribbean), and the cruise line you plan to use, such as P&O Cruises or Cunard Cruises.
Go online and take a look at the various cruise packages offered by the various companies. These will include a port of departure, on shore ports of call you can visit during your trip on the dates you choose, and the type of cabins or suites available. (Choose your cabin based upon amenities, size, and location.)
In addition, take a look at the activities offered on board and the types of dining packages included in the price. It is likely that you won't be able to schedule activities (including shore excursions) until you are actually on board, but you can get a good idea of what activities and shore excursions a particular cruise will offer, so that you can choose based upon your own preferences.
Special Considerations
Many cruise lines offer packages for families where activities are included for children. Therefore, if you are going to be travelling with children you may want to choose a cruise line and package that includes plenty of family and children's activities, as well as those suited to adults.
Of course, you may want plenty of relaxation built into your schedule of activities during your time on board, and you will have plenty of opportunity for that, too. Many cruise lines offers spa facilities for passengers who want them, and of course you can simply relax on deck with a drink and a good book, watching the scenery float by.
Eating On Board
It is important to note that although you will generally be assigned a dining room (and perhaps a dining seat) for taking meals on board, food itself is plentiful and there will be a wide selection. You should have no trouble finding food choices to your liking, since companies go to great lengths to meet passengers' food preferences. You may also be able to choose your dining room and seat ahead of time as part of the booking process.
Booking Your Trip
Once you have chosen a cruise line and package (including date of departure and return, on board activities, dining choices and seating as applicable, and shore excursions), book your cruise trip and choose a payment method. Most cruise lines will let you pay in full right away, or you can put down a deposit and then pay in instalments, depending on the cruise line and particular trip you are taking. Check terms and conditions to determine payment options as they apply to you.
