When Should I Take an Alaska Cruise?
Typically, Alaskan cruises run from mid-May to September. It is a short cruise season, especially when compared to warmer climate cruises however, there is still plenty of time to get in on a great Alaska cruise.
If you’re a bargain hunter and are more concerned with price, then choose a to take your cruise in the months of May or September. This is when you will find the best prices. September is also the best month for seeing the Northern Lights (aurora borealis). If it is heat you seek, you may want to hop on board during the warmer summer months of July or August.
Wildlife is ample all year around however, so are the mosquitoes. The month of May is your best bet if you’re hoping to avoid them. Fishing is also great during any of these months but the least amount of tourists arrive in May and in September. This means fewer crowds and possibly better wildlife and fishing experiences. A unique element in visiting Alaska is the 24-hour daylight. During the months of May, June and July you can expect to experience these unusually long days that never seem to end.
What About Customs and Immigration?
As of 2011, all guests sailing to Alaska are required to produce a passport. This passport requirement extends to all passengers and citizens regardless of age, including infants. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your sailing date.
It is the responsibility of each passenger to ensure they have an appropriate passport and additional accompanying documentation, if need be. In some instances, some passengers may be required to obtain a Visa to enter the country during the cruise. It is imperative that you check with your travel agent or cruise line to make certain you have all the proper documentation. This should be done well in advance of your departure.
