Galveston Port awarded $10 million grant

19 May 2009

Those planning to take a cruise holiday this year may be interested to learn that the Texan port of Galveston is to benefit from a $10 million for improvement works.

The area around pier 14-18 of the port will now be redeveloped and revitalised.

Facilities will be modernised and expanded to accommodate large cruise liners and cargo vessels.

Port director Steve Cernak commented: "The Port of Galveston is extremely appreciative of this funding, which will be used to improve areas of the port that suffered significant damage as a result of Hurricane Ike."

In other cruise holiday news, travel expert Jane Archer recently wrote in the Telegraph that there has never been a better time for Brits to take a break at sea, with cruise lines such as Cunard, Royal Caribbean and P&O offering some fantastic deals.

Royal Caribbean Cruises are available from only £299 per person
