Southampton''s new purpose-built cruise terminal is set to open its doors on Saturday (May 9th).
The facility is the first of its kind to be opened in the city in over 40 years, TravelMole reports.
Built at a cost of £19 million, the terminal is situated at Ocean Dock, close to the old Ocean Terminal and will act as a hub for cruise lines including the Cunard Line, Ocean Village and
Princess Cruises.
The terminal is capable of accommodating around 4,000 passengers daily and will feature 40 new check-in desks, as well as a taxi rank, drop-off area and car parks.
Passengers travelling on P&O''s Oceana ship will be among the first to make use of the building when they call at the port of Southampton this weekend.
In related news, cruise expert Jane Archer recently claimed that there has never been a better time to take a holiday at sea.
Writing in the Telegraph, she said British holidaymakers were beginning to realise that cruises offer exceptional value for money and are a great option for those looking to get away during the credit crunch.
