The Queen Mary's days of providing luxurious
cruise holidays appeared to be over, but that could be about to change.
An entertainment company in Las Vegas is backing a project to restore the former Cunard liner back to her former glory and return her to the waters.
Cairngorm Entertainment has revealed it would be willing to spend around £1 billion on bringing the ship back up to the condition required to offer
cruise holidays.
At least four years of work would be required to complete the restoration, which has been entitled the Queen's Project.
Commenting on the proposals, Robert Sides III, president and chief executive officer of the project, said, "Can you imagine the grandeur of seeing her sail into harbour?"
At present, the Queen Mary is docked in Long Beach Harbor in California and operates as a floating hotel and tourism attraction.
This month, anybody who serves or has retired from the US military will be able to gain admission to the vessel for a special rate of $5.
