An increasing number of cruise lines are offering voyages from British ports, it has been revealed.
Figures from the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) show that four out of ten cruises booked departs from a UK port.
PSA director William Gibbons, said leaving from Britain has many advantages.
"You don''t have to worry about luggage being overweight or whether you have too much; you can drive to your port to catch a cruise. You don''t have the hassle of flying and you don''t have to have the airport experience," he explained.
For those booking a cruise holiday for the first time, Mr Gibbons said it is important to decide which destinations they wish to visit and work out which itinerary they are best suited to.
According to a report released by the PSA earlier this month, the Mediterranean is the most popular destination for Brits taking cruise holidays, with northern and western Europe coming a close second.
P&O Cruises are available from only £199 per person
