Oasis of the Seas undergoes trials

Oasis of the Seas undergoes trials

16 June 2009

Due to launch later this year, the Oasis of the Seas will be the world''s largest cruise ship and capable of carrying over 5,400 passengers.

According to TravelMole, the vessel underwent its first sea trials last week, close to the Finnish shipyard where it was constructed.

Commenting on the trials, Royal Caribbean president and chief executive Richard Fain said: "The ship has been afloat for six months, but this is the first time that we will get to test out all the systems in a fully operating environment."

Spanning 16 decks, the Oasis of the Seas will be divided into several neighbourhood zones and boast more than 7,000 works of art.

Among other things, the ship will feature four swimming pools, a dedicated sports deck and a health and fitness centre.

In related news, the Daily Mail reported recently that the number of cruise lines choosing to base ships in the UK is on the increase, as demand for holidays at sea continues to grow.

Royal Caribbean Cruises are available from only £299 per person
