The second largest cruise operator in the world, Royal Caribbean Cruises , has revealed in its latest report that a number of new measures have impacted upon its efficiency and bettered its environmental effect. With ships that are designed better, and improved sailing practices, the firm said that fuel consumption has dropped by about 4per cent, decreasing their carbon footprint and making them more attractive to the eco conscious passenger.
A number of measures have been taken onboard by Royal Caribbean as they look to ensure that those enjoying their cruise holidays have as little negative effect on the environment as possible. Integrating solar window film on all of their ships is just one of the steps taken by the popular company who sail all over the world. Meanwhile, their fuel consumption from 2008 has decreased by 3.7per cent in 2009, well within 2.5per cent personal targets, causing the cruise operator to reveal that increasing targets would be set to keep the firm utilising new technologies and become as ecologically efficient as possible.
The news will be welcomed by holidaymakers, especially those who wish to enjoy the luxurious life of cruising whilst ensuring that their impact upon the environment is as little as possible. And with Royal Caribbean Cruises using more economical lighting methods, using solar film on windows to reduce heat absorption and save on air conditioning, and utilising new technologies for water manufacturing systems, those with an environmentally green outlook will certainly look favourably upon the firm.
