Brits Still Love their Holidays – and Cruises
28 February 2011
Research carried out by Teletext among 3000 adults shows that the average Briton takes 2 holidays every year between the ages of 18 and 78. This amounts to 121 holidays over the course of a lifetime. The total amount spent during these holidays is a whopping £168 000.
Many people’s first trip is a holiday with their parents to Cornwall. The last trip they take is often a leisurely cruise to Australia.
Those in their twenties like to party in Ibiza during their holidays. Once they have a life partner, most people prefer a slower-paced holiday, such as a cruise to a tropical island or to Rome. Honeymooners love cruises to Barbados and the Maldives.
Once the children have left the house and the parents are suddenly alone again, they often have more time for themselves. This is when many people opt for holidays in Australia or a cruise to the Caribbean.
These holidays of course come at a price. Britons on average spend £2 784 a year on their 2 holidays, which adds up to a total of £168 000 over a period of 40 years.
Victoria Sanders, of Teletext, said “'An ageing population means that we are travelling for longer and we can fit much more of the world into a lifetime than ever before.”
