Cruise Lines Spend Millions On Upgrading Their Cruise Ships
24 February 2011
The Crystal Serenity was only launched 8 years ago, but the company is already spending a massive £15.5 million on upgrading the ship. The Serenity originally cost £215 million to construct. The upgrades will be done in Hamburg in May 2011.
Only a 14-day period is allowed for the upgrades, during which a team of 400 engineers and technicians will be fitting new lighting and carpets throughout the Serenity. Floor to ceiling tufted headboards will be fitted in all the ship’s 531 cabins. Other improvements include new bedside cabinets, sofas, wallpaper, pillows, curtains and custom carpets.
The old do-not-disturb signs will be replaced with an all-new electronic access system, complete with door bells.
New carpets will be fitted in corridors throughout the Serenity. New artwork will provide a modern yet elegant ambiance. The Crystal Dining Room will be fitted with brand new lighting and the stateroom verandas will also get new furniture.
The Hebridean Princess is undergoing similar upgrades on the Clyde at Greenock. New double and single cabins are being fitted as part of a major upgrade.
Fred Olson is determined not to be left behind by all the upgrades their competitors are embarking on. They recently announced a major overhaul of their 38 year old Boudicca, during which 17 new cabins will be created, as well as new shops and upgrades to existing shops.
