Cunard Queen Mary 2 visits Australia
22 February 2011
The Queen Mary 2 is currently on a 103-day world cruise, of which more than two months are still remaining. It recently docked at Cape Town, South Africa, after visiting New York, Miami, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo. In Cape Town passengers had to opportunity to see the world famous Table Mountain and relax in the country’s number one tourist spot, the V&A Waterfront development.
After visiting Australia, the ship will cruise to Asia and then on the New York via the Mediterranean. This was the second visit to Fremantle, after docking there for the first time in 2010.
The 151,400 tonne ship belongs to Cunard. It has a height of 62m and can carry 2600 passengers plus 1300 crew members.
The Queen Mary boasts the largest ballroom and the largest library of any ship currently sailing the seven seas. Passengers have a selection of 10 restaurants to choose from, as well as five swimming pools.
Those of us who are not fortunate enough to be on the current cruise still have a chance next year: the Queen Mary 2 will visit Fremantle twice during an Australian cruise while circumnavigating the country.
Another Cunard ship, the Queen Elizabeth, will visit Fremantle for the first time later this month.
