Grand Princess to Undergo Major Upgrade
17 February 2011
A number of new features will also be introduced, including a novel concept: a tea lounge cum library as well as a full-service pizzeria.
The Skywalker Nightclub has become quite a landmark on the Grand Princess, so regular passengers might be disappointed to here that it will have to make way for something new. The good news is that it will be replaced by a trendy new night club on the 15th deck, appropriately called One5. The move was necessary to improve the Princess’s operational performance and to enhance fuel efficiency.
Ten new suites will also be added, as well as a steak house and a Martini Lounge. The casino, art gallery and boutiques will be remodelled and enhancements made to the wedding chapel, Lotus Spa and Horizon Court.
“This is the largest makeover we’ve ever undertaken for any of our ships,” said Pieter van der Schee, head of brand marketing Princess Cruises UK.
He added that when the Grand Princess was first launched she boasted some ground-breaking features and the latest upgrade will put her once again in line with her sister ships in the Princess fleet. “She will be an even greater attraction for British cruisers looking for a pampering, relaxing holiday” van der Schee said.
The Grand Princess will be in the dry-dock at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport from 11 April to 4 May before returning to Southampton.
