The 24-year old Lindsay is no stranger to controversy. The past week she appeared in court on charges of having stolen a necklace. The verdict in this case is not yet known.

The latest addition to Carnival’s fleet is the massive 130 000 ton Magic. Construction on the cruise ship is nearly completed and it is expected to be launched in Venice, Italy on the 1 May 2011.

John Heald, cruise director, this week quickly squashed rumours that Ms Lohan will smash a bottle of prosecco against the ship’s hull and thereby become its godmother or ‘madrina’. He reportedly said “We were looking at Lindsay Lohan, but we were concerned she wouldn’t let go of the bottle.”

Whoever the company chooses to launch the cruise ship in the end (and apparently Megan Fox is John Heald’s favourite), they certainly hope she will fare better than American TV presenter Mary Hart who had to launch Oceana Cruises’s latest ship the Marina last weekend.

Before smashing a 15-litre bottle of champagne against the 66 000 ton ship’s hull, she kept on referring to ‘my Marina’. This was apparently not much appreciated by Frank del Rio and Bob Binder, who founded Oceana and who raised the $1n needed to build the ship and its twin sister, the Riviera (which will be launched in 2012).
