P&O Cruisers Can Now Support Worldwide Causes
15 February 2011
The name of this program is Green World Tours. It has been designed to allow travellers to support the towns and communities visited during their itineraries as well as to provide cruisers with a rare insight into the problems of the developing world.
The first of these cruises was the 2010 Oriana World Cruise. The cruise ship called at Manila in the Philippines and passengers had the opportunity of visiting a children’s village. During the visit passengers donated £500 to the village, as well as a selection of toys, games and sweets.
Other points of visit during current world cruises include the Peninsular School Feeding Project in Cape Town, South Africa, the Sunshine Village in Phuket, Thailand and a children’s home in Port Kelang. These tours are non-profit. Some include a donation, while others are priced to cover only the cost. Making a donation is voluntary but highly appreciated.
Charity tours are currently available on all P&O world cruises. These include the Arcadia (5 January – 29 March 2011), the Artemis (4 January to 12 April 2011) and the Aurora (9 January – 14 April 2011) Ports of call where these tours are available include Port Kelang (Kuala Lumpur), Montevideo, Durban, Phuket, Limon, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, Manila, Koh Samui and Laem Chabang.
Green World Tours are also available to wildlife projects such as the Cats and Dogs Rescue Centre in Koh Samui and the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre in Laem Chabang.
