Royal Caribbean Going Big
15 February 2011
The cruise line has signed a letter of intent with the well-known German shipyard Meyer Werft.
When approached for comment the chief executive officer and chairman of Royal Caribbean, Richard Fain, were not prepared to part with a lot of information about the new class of ship, with the code name of Project Sunshine. He merely said that the next generation of ships will not disappoint.
He further commented that "It will offer features for everyone. From grand, spectacular spaces to small intimate settings; from active, invigorating activities to the serenity of more personal space; and from a plethora of dining alternatives to a cornucopia of opportunities for families."
Another Royal Caribbean ship, the 5400-passenger Allure of the Seas, has been be put into service this season. The Allure of the Seas and the 2009 Oasis of the Seas are jointly the two biggest ships currently in operation anywhere in the world.
The Allure of the Seas has features such as the Broadway production of Chicago, ice shows and even aerial shows. There is a staggering 26 dining options to choose from and it will feature the world’s first floating Starbucks coffee lounge as well as a 3D movie screen. Passengers also have access to a Guess Accessory store, a Britto Gallery and a number of other shops. They are also able to check in for flights and even print their boarding passes.
