According to Clydeport this will serve as an important information portal about the benefits of entering Scotland via this route. Scotland has a wide array of tourist attractions and many of them are located in the Greenock area.
According to Andrew Hemphill, general manager of Greenock Ocean Terminal, the website will be a key tool to promote the high standards they have created at the terminal. By fully informing both cruisers and cruise lines about the many benefits of using the terminal, they will ensure that Greenock will remain a major UK destination for cruise ships.
Business Development Manager for Clydeport, David Jerome, added: "The cruise market is continuing to grow year-on-year, and our new marketing campaign will ensure that we continue to attract vessels to Greenock Ocean Terminal.”
More than 35 cruise ships, with a total passenger count of over 50 000, will visit Greenock during 2011. This includes a visit by Cunard’s new flagship the Queen Elizabeth which will bring a maiden visit to the terminal later this year.
John Mundell, the chief executive of Inverclyde Council, said that Clydeport has been able to grow despite the current economic downturn in the country. He added that Greenock was working very hard to revamp its town centre. They want to provide a hearty welcome to the tens of thousands of cruise passengers and staff members who will visit Greenock during the rest of the year.
