Princess Cruises Celebrates Ambassador’s 80th Birthday in Style
11 March 2011
The occasion was attended by a large number of Macleod’s friends and family, as well as crew members of the Golden Princess.
Everyone sang “Happy Birthday” as Macleod was presented with a magnificent 5-foot long 3D cake replica of the ship on which Love Boat was originally filmed – the Pacific Princess.
Love Boat was a worldwide hit that ran for 11 years from 1977 to 1986. It is still being watched by millions worldwide, since it has been syndicated to 92 countries across the globe.
It wasn’t just Macleod’s birthday that was celebrated though: 2011 is also the 25th year during which Macleod acted as spokesperson for Princess Cruises.
Macleod did not only play in Love Boat, of course. He is also widely known for his roles in other television productions such as “Murder she Wrote”, “Hotel”, “Run for Your Life”, “To Catch a Thief”, “Ironside”, “The Big Valley”, “Hogan’s Heroes”, “The Dick van Dyke Show”, “Hawaii Five-0”, “McHale’s Navy” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”.
The Golden Princess cruise liner was built in 2001. It can carry 2600 passengers and 1 100 crew members. It underwent major refurbishments in April and May 2009 at a dry dock in Victoria.
