The beloved Royal Princess will soon be no more - at least not the P&O version, which is about to be withdrawn from the Princess Cruises fleet. The ship will undergo some renovations and be reborn as the P&O Adonia later this year.
Construction work on the new ship has already started at a shipyard in Italy. The company recently issued a press release with details about the new cruise liner.
The new ship will in the first instance be significantly larger. The current Royal Princess weighs in at a mere 30,275 tons, but the new one will have a tonnage of 141,000. The current ship only carries 710 cruise passengers, but the new incarnation will be able to transport a whopping 3,600 guests.
The design of the new ship will be totally new and incorporate some groundbreaking features. One of them is the new Skywalk – a 28ft enclosed walkway with a glass floor on the starboard side of the ship, allowing passengers a breathtaking view of the ocean far below.
On the opposite side of the ship will be a protruding SeaView bar offering unbelievable views. Hopefully this will not go the same route as the SkyWalker night club on the Grand Princess, which will be removed when the ship visits the dry docks next month.
There will be an adults-only pool on the upper deck of the ship, surrounded by a number of cabanas which guests can rent per hour or per day. Two other pools flanked by a tropical island doubling as a dance club at night complete the picture.
