First on the agenda was the Red Frog pub, which is definitely not a typical British pub, but rather a Caribbean-style boozer - despite the Murphy’s Stout, Stella Artois, Newcastle Brown Ale and home-brand Thirsty Frog beer on sale. The menu reflects this reality with dishes such as roti pancakes and conch salad. There are also fish fingers and beef burgers available, both of which taste a whole lot better than the freezer variety you will get at home.
The Lido restaurant has also been enlarged and extra seating added. The upstairs area doubles as a pasta bar during the day and after sunset it converts to a superb Italian trattoria. The portions are generous and the tables comfortably large.
The Prime steakhouse, which can seat 65 diners in comfort, has been moved from deck 12 to deck five. In the process the Punchliners comedy club had to give up some of its floor space. The club will now serve as the venue for the occasional late night spicy burlesque show.
The Carnival Magic will be christened in Venice on the 1st May by cancer survivor Lindsey Wilkerson. After that the cruise ship will set sail for Barcelona, from where it will embark on a range of seven, nine and 12-night Mediterranean cruises for the rest of the summer season. In November it will depart for Galveston, Texas.
