Port Canaveral Hosts Cunard Queen for a Day

Port Canaveral Hosts Cunard Queen for a Day

04 April 2011

The ship is currently on a 16-day Atlantic Odyssey cruise to the UK. Ports of call on the way include the Bahamas, Bermuda and Lisbon in Portugal.

The Cunard Queen Victoria is one of the smallest, yet most exclusive ships in the Cunard fleet. It can accommodate 2,000 passengers in the utmost luxury.

Cunard is of course active in the upper end of the cruise industry. Its ships are more luxurious than most and the cruises tend to be aimed at exclusive clientele looking to indulge in glamour and opulence. The cruise line’s history goes back to 1840 and the Queen Victoria has, therefore, specifically been designed to highlight the British background surrounding the company and the ship.

It starts with afternoon tea parties and continues with the Golden Lion British pub. In the Cunardia section there are many old newspaper clippings dating back to the early days of the cruise line, as well as models of earlier ships and letters written by famous (and infamous) passengers.

The ship is targeted at a specific group of people: those who love grand living, ballroom dancing, theatre productions and state-of-the-art suites with a price tag of over $10,000 for a 2-week cruise. Some of the cruises can be as long as 103 days and attract a variety of dignitaries, socialites, tycoons and even royalty.
