In a survey they found that the majority of people drink more when cruising than when they are on land-based holidays. Seventy-six percent of respondents said they drink more at sea and only 13% said it made no change to them.
Around 44% of these respondents knock back between five and eight drinks while at sea every day and 13% enjoy more than eight drinks a day. This still leaves 43% who drink either nothing or less than five drinks a day.
It appears that the most popular drinks while cruising are cocktails. Second in line comes champagne.
According to the survey, the reason the majority of people drink more at sea is that they feel safer on a cruise ship than on land. Whether their drinking habits played a part in this was not clear.
Perhaps the findings shed some light into why there are hardly any cruise lines offering “unlimited drinks” packages on board their cruise ships!
