Thomson Cruises Returning to Isle of Man

Thomson Cruises Returning to Isle of Man

11 April 2011

This forms part of a major restructuring of the company’s cruises for the 2012 season.

The company’s Thomson Spirit will, for example, embark on a series of 15 different cruises from Newcastle (May to July) and Harwich (August to September). These cruises will take in 39 destinations and form three to 14 nights.

One of the cruise line’s 15 cruises will be a cruise around the British Isles. This 11-night journey will visit old favourites such as Edinburgh, the Orkney Islands, the Isle of Mull, the Isle of Man, Dublin and Guernsey.

Among the other cruises on offer are voyages to exotic locations such as the Norwegian, Icelandic and Baltic fjords, which are old favourites with cruise lovers. Those who have never cruised before and want to get a taste of what a cruise holiday is all about, should perhaps consider the “Weekend Affair” – a short voyage to Holland and Belgium. If you like this idea, book early – there will be only one such cruise during the upcoming season. Bookings open on the 7th April 2011.

Thomson’s Commercial General Manager, Phil Gardner, had the following to say: “As a British Cruise company we are very excited to be back cruising from the UK. We have widened the portfolio of destinations we offer on our cruises to give customers even more choice.”

He added that Thomson Cruises also responded to customers’ requests by re-instating their ex-UK cruises.

I was just enquiring about the schedule when docking in Douglas harbour. The Island’s only historic house, Milntown, set in 15.5 acres of beautiful gardens in the North of the Island, near Ramsey, is now open for group tours and visits. Milntown was originally the home of the Christian’s, one of the Island’s leading families. It has also been a school for young ladies and a hotel. The Estate was originally created when Deemster John McCrystyn (1511-1535) merged his Altadale Estate in Glen Auldyn with an adjoining estate and renamed the complete holding Milntown. More recently it again reverted to being a private house and was owned by Lady Edwards and subsequently her son Sir Clive Edwards. Upon his death, in 1999, a private charitable Trust was created to maintain the house for the benefit of the Manx people. As well as many features dating from Deemster Christian’s 1830 Gothic style refurbishment and earlier periods, the house now remains as it was decorated and furnished by Lady Edwards and Sir Clive. Milntown also contains a fine collection of painting and furniture as well as a vintage car and motorcycle display. We can offer your members exclusive bespoke experiences at Milntown, including tailored catering such as lunches, afternoon tea and private dinners. Your members can also be taken on guided tours of the house and explore the gardens to experience the history and heritage of this unique estate. House tours are held on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm. I would be delighted to discuss any requirements that you may have, please do not hesitate to contact me on 812321. Regards Vicky Crellin
