Celebrity Cruises has always been art-friendly. The cruise line’s ships already exhibit modern works of art by both upcoming and well-known artists. In fact, you can even browse their ships via iPad if you want to truly experience the many art exhibitions on board.
They have now taken this appreciation of art a step further by introducing a new venue called the Art Club on their ship the Celebrity Silhouette. Situated in the Lawn Club on the Silhouette’s top deck, the Art Club will allow guests to experience an array of interactive classes, demonstrations and lectures. Topics covered will include painting, sketching and jewellery creation. Passengers will also get the opportunity to create their own works of art.
The interactive art sessions will be conducted by renowned artists Armando Droulers and Leslie LaCombe. These sessions will continue throughout the ship’s European summer season.
Armando Droulers is an artist, art historian and educator who studied at the University of South Florida, the New World School of Arts, the Academia de Arte Federico Brandt and Bard College. He regularly presents lecturers on art and culture and also takes part in cultural events and art tours worldwide.
He has lived in Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and the U.S. and speaks three languages fluently: French, Spanish and English.
Leslie LaCombe worked in television and film for many years and then proceeded to study silver jewellery design in Mexico under the guidance of renowned artist Billy King. She travelled extensively in Europe, India and Southeast Asia and the many cultures she encountered now act as an inspiration for her work.
