Celebrity Cruises has always been known for its culinary expertise, something for which the company has won more than one award. They are heating things up this summer with the first open-air grilling restaurant ever on a cruise ship. The lucky ship is the Celebrity Silhouette and the restaurant in question will be called “The Lawn Club Grill.”

The cruise line’s Vice President of Culinary Operations, Jacques van Staden, says “People tend to associate grilling with the relaxing, carefree mood of summer - exactly what a Celebrity vacation is all about.”

He added that the new grill would enable passengers to experience something that is highly popular with many cultures from all over the world. Passengers at the Lawn Club Grill can also experience a real lawn feature nearby, and will be surrounded by endless sea views.

Something that will no doubt have a huge novelty value is the fact that guests will be able to become their group’s “Grill Master” by pairing up with a Celebrity Cruises chef. He or she will then work with the chef in preparing the menu and the food over the ship’s customised ventilated grills. This is no doubt a great way to learn the correct grilling techniques. The lucky guest will even receive an apron as a keepsake.

Guests will be able to select from a gourmet salad bar, build their own pizzas or choose from among 12 grill specialities. Unfortunately the Lawn Club Grill can only accommodate 58 people at a time.

Van Staden concluded by saying that Celebrity was forever looking at new ways to deliver their guests fresh, exciting gastronomic experiences.
