The Arab Spring uprisings continue to have a ripple effect on the cruise industry and its itineraries. While some cruise ships have returned to Tunisia and Egypt, other ports of call had to be taken off itineraries.
P&O for example recently announced that its ships will no longer make the planned calls in Tripoli at the end of the year. Voyages to Antiquity has now also made the decision to amend the itineraries for the Aegean Odyssey.
They have combined three itineraries into two and planned visits to Tripoli, Benghazi, Darnah and Latakia have been cancelled.
The ship’s 8th November departure has been renamed to Ancient Wonders and the Holy Land. It will now dock at Eilat and from there features a two-day road excursion to Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Passengers will get an opportunity to take a dip in the Dead Sea.
The last cruise of the year, which has been renamed to the Red Sea, Petra and Suez Canal cruise, starts off with a two-night stay in Amman, the capital of Jordan. It will also overnight in the ancient city of Petra, where passengers will stay in a five-star hotel.
Both these cruises will also overnight in magical Beirut and passengers will be taken on a day trip to Baalbeck, the ancient Heliopolis site. There will also be an overnight stay at a hotel in Luxor, where passengers will get to see the temples of Luxor and Karnak and visit the Valley of the Kings.
