Why there are not more move premieres on board cruise ships is hard to fathom. What better location can one ever find for such an event than a mega cruise liner where invited guests can be pampered in the lap of luxury during and after the show?
This should work wonders for both the film distributors and the cruise company, both of whom will get a lot of free publicity in the process.
At least one cruise company seems to realise this. Royal Caribbean recently partnered with DreamWorks Animation to stage an exclusive red carpet function on board the cruise line’s latest and greatest ship, Allure of the Seas, during which DreamWorks’ latest movie Puss in Boots was screened for the first time ever. It will only be shown in theatres across the United States from the 28th October. The venue was Allure’s ultra-modern 3D movie theatre.
Only a selected few were able to attend the function, among them none other than the stars of the film, Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas, who provide voices to Kitty Softpaws and Puss in Boots in the movie.
In case you’re not familiar with the film, it’s about the notorious outlaw, lover and fighter Puss in Boots who, in order to save his town, has to embark on a life-changing adventure with the street smart Kitty Softpaws.
If you can’t afford a cruise on board Allure of the Seas, at least go and see the movie and imagine you’re sitting in the movie theatre on board the ship.
