The Titanic was the biggest cruise ship in the world when it was built more than 100 years ago and it has become what is arguably the most famous, or notorious, ocean liner in the history of cruising.
To commemorate the ship’s 100th anniversary, Azamara Journey has been chartered by Miles Morgan Travel, an agency based in the UK, to embark on a special Titanic Memorial Cruise next year.
The cruise will set sail from New York City on the 10th April 2012. From there it will head straight to Halifax, where a memorial service will be conducted at the precise time and location where the iconic cruise liner sank a century ago.
There will be special guest lecturers on board the ship. One of them is the Captain of Allure of the Seas, the current biggest cruise ship in the world. Another one is ‘Mr Ocean Liner’, Bill Miller, and world famous Titanic artist Ken Marschall will also put in an appearance.
Passengers sailing on this cruise will be able to take part in an expedition to the site of the wreck and they will take part in the special memorial services as well. They will also get a chance to visit the three Halifax cemeteries where those who died in the tragedy were buried.
Something that raised some eyebrows was the company’s announcement that passengers who wanted to would have the chance to dress up in costumes of that period. Many people regarded this as being in bad taste.
