It seems that if you have always dreamt of a cruise to Bermuda you will have to make that dream come true sooner rather than later. Yet another cruise line has decided to cut its trips to Bermuda.
It started with Carnival Cruises a while ago, soon followed by Holland America. Now Princess Cruises has also decided to reduce the number of cruises to this island destination.
For the past three years the company’s Caribbean Princess has been visiting Bermuda on a regular basis, every time bringing in more than 3,000 visitors. Next year, however, Caribbean Princess will only make a single visit to Dockyard, since it will spend the biggest part of the summer in the United Kingdom.
The cruise line’s Media Relations Manager, Karen Candy, said to the Bermuda Sun “We are moving the Caribbean Princess to Europe. We will not be operating the ship out of New York next year which means it will only visit Bermuda once in October.”
She added that demand obviously played a major role in the movement of Princess ships. The cruise line recently transferred one of its smaller cruise liners, leaving them with only 16 ships. Plans are underway for two new cruise ships in 2013 and 2014 and Ms Candy expressed the hope that Princess Cruises will be able to return to Bermuda in the not too distant future.
Caribbean Princess visited Bermuda no less than 12 times in 2009. In 2010 the number of visits was reduced to ten.
