This May Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa will be on board Crystal Serenity to act as onsite Executive Chef in the Sushi Bar and Silk Road, the two specialty restaurants that he runs in partnership with Crystal Cruises.
The world renowned Japanese chef will present cooking lessons, take pictures with guests, personally prepare some dishes and sign autographs during the 11-night Western Mediterranean/European cruise starting on the 24th May 2012.
Guests will be treated to a special “Omakase” dinner with champagne and sake selected by Sake Master Funio Hazu. Each course will be explained to diners by both Nobu and Hazu. Mr Hazu will also host several sake-tasting functions where Japanese hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Demonstrations and tastings will also be hosted by Master Sommelier Bob Bath, Mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim and Chef Heinz Beck, of the La Pergola in Rome. A seven-course “Ultimate Vintage Room Dinner” prepared by Bath and Beck will feature extremely rare fine wines for about $1,000 per person.
Nobu’s trademark Peruvian-Japanese fusion cuisine has been served on board Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony since 2008 and 2003 respectively. He personally trains every chef, designs every menu and schedules personal visits to the two cruise liners every year to ensure that standards are maintained.
Toni Neumeister, the Vice President of Food and Beverage Operations at Crystal Cruises, said “This visit, Nobu really wanted to have more personal interaction and time with the guests who have helped make his only ocean-going culinary venture such a success through the years.”
