SeaDream Yacht Club has just introduced what is most likely the first-ever “Raw Food” menu for cruise lovers. The “living foods” or “raw foods” movement was once considered to be a radical form of vegetarianism, but it is slowly being accepted by the mainstream culinary world.
In addition to the “regular” menu, gourmet raw food is now offered onboard SeaDream’s two luxury mega-yachts, SeaDream I and SeaDream II.
“Raw,” in this instance, refers to a style of food preparation where all the ingredients are vegan (no meat, fish, dairy or eggs) and organic and nothing is exposed to heat above 48° Celsius to make sure no micro nutrients are lost.
Atle and Linn Brynestad, the Norwegian owners of SeaDream, were exposed to this style of food preparation at the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida. They were so excited by the health benefits that this way of food preparation offers that afterwards they asked Renate Waller, the Executive Chef, to join SeaDream’s kitchen.
Sudesh Kishore, the Executive Chef at SeaDream then worked closely with Raw Food Chef Renate to create a unique optional menu of tasty gourmet raw food dishes for the company.
Renate says “Switching to a high percentage of raw, living plant based foods, enables people to reclaim feeling great and being well.”
The menu includes beverages such as the Blood Apple Blaster and Watercress Tang. The salad menu includes Cashew Curry Salad and a typical entrée would be Vegetable Lasagne.
The raw food menu is completely optional and guests will still be able to sample all SeaDream’s traditional cuisine when they cruise on board one of their two yachts.
