Norwegian Jewel to offer Caribbean cruises from New Orleans

14 October 2013

To show exactly how committed it is to New Orleans, Norwegian Cruise Line’s ship Norwegian Jewel arrived in the city for an inaugural visit on Sunday 13th October 2013. This is the newest and also the biggest ship from the company to ever make its homeport in New Orleans.

The ship, with a passenger capacity of 2,376, features the cruise line’s trademark “Freestyle Cruising” with no fewer than 16 eateries, 13 lounges and bars and unique Nickelodeon activities and programming.

Norwegian’s CEO and President, Kevin Sheehan, said that his company had taken cruising in New Orleans to a brand new level this season by introducing one of its Jewel-class cruise ships to the city.

He added: “Norwegian Jewel enhances the cruise experience for guests with a wide range of amenities and accommodations to choose from.”

The Norwegian Jewel will offer seven-day voyages to the Western Caribbean from the Julia Street cruise terminal in New Orleans every Sunday between the 13th October this year and the 13th April next year. Ports of call during these journeys will include Belize City, Belize; Cozumel, Mexico; Costa Maya, Mexico and Roatan, Bay Islands in Honduras.

Cruise fares for these cruises start at about £230 per passenger sharing a double cabin.

The CEO and President of the port, Gary LaGrange, said that the introduction of the new ship offered cruise lovers sailing from New Orleans an exciting new option and that he looked forward to a long relationship between the city and Norwegian Cruise Line.
