Thomson Cruises intends to shell out millions of pounds on upgrading two of its cruise liners, placing them on an equal footing with the four-star hotels in its Platinum Collection. Thomson Dream, constructed in 1986 – with a passenger capacity of 1,506, will be first to be refurbished. Cabins will be re-vamped and fitted with flat-screen TVs and coffee and tea-making facilities.

Rumours that a new ship will join the Thomson Cruises fleet have for some time been doing the rounds. For now they remain just that: rumours. The cruise line has, however, announced on the 6th March that the ageing Thomson Destiny is about to be replaced.

Thomson Cruises has announced its intention to modernise its fleet of ships by upgrading existing ships and also potentially buying new cruise liners.

It seems that Thomson Cruises are quite serious about combining the entertainment and cruising industries. Not only has it just launched Showboaters (a talent competition) on Sky One, the company has also decided to set up stage schools for its star-struck younger supporters on board its ships.

Thomson Cruises has at last confirmed that the company’s flagship, Thomson Dream, was the host of a brand new talent show called Showboaters filmed by Sky1 HD.

In what will no doubt be a big disappointment for those who have already booked a cruise on board the Island Escape, the ship’s owner Tui UK and Ireland has decided to cancel the whole winter programme due to weak demand.

According to the new boss of Thomson Cruises, the company will bring back the Thomson Spirit for ex-UK cruises from 2010. This follows after Thomson received “fantastic feedback” from passengers when they heard the Spirit will sail from Newcastle and Harwich in 2012.

After recently announcing that it will once again offer cruises around Britain, Thomson Cruises has now also announced that the company will send cruise ships to the Isle of Man during 2012.

Thomson Cruises will be offering cruises departing from UK locations in 2012. This will be the first time since 2009 that the company will provide UK-based cruises.
