Comment:

This was our first P and O Cruise and we were not disappointed.  It compared favourably with our experiences on Cunard and Celebrity.  We were on A deck, midship.  Our cabin was very comfortable and we had a large window.  The bed was wonderful.  We usually opt for a balcony, but the Oriana only has balconies on one deck, and the price was too high.  We were on the first segment of the World Cruise - 20 days to San Francisco.  Our first port of call was Madeira.  We had not been there before, so it was unfortunate that the mountain was shrouded in fog.  The tour was well organised, but we did not see a lot.  We called at St Lucia, Isla Margarita, and Curacao before going through the Panama Canal - the highlight of our trip.  Next stop was Acapulco where we had the best tour - excellent guide and very comfortable coach.  We disembarked at San Francisco where we spent 3 nights in Argonaut Hotel at Fisherman's Wharf. Excellent hotel in every respect.  Every evening between 5 and 6 all guests were treated to free wine in the lobby, which was a lovely surprise. We found San Francisco a very expensive city.  We did not find any nice food at reasonable prices, apart from breakfast in the Argonaut.  The cable car and sightseeing tour bus were very enjoyable.  We flew home with Virgin Atlantic - over 10 hours to Heathrow, a wait of 5 hours before our flight to Belfast.  It has taken a week to recover from the Jet lag, but it was a great trip, and we really enjoyed it.
