Transatlantic Queen Mary 2 voyages have become very popular and are now the latest fashion in crossing the Atlantic instead of flying. Surprisingly this 10-12 night deal on the Queen Mary 2 can at times come to LESS than the cost of a 1 way flight.!!! Many people are recognising that a Cunard Queen Mary 2 voyage between Southampton & New York is a special treat - be it for a family celebration, as part of a longer holiday or for a very unique & stylish 2nd holiday of the year.
If there is only one international city on anyone's must see list - it has to be New York City. The bright lights, sights and shopping delights beckon to create the buzz that is Manhattan - the memory of which stays with you for a long time afterwards. Think of Central Park, 5th Avenue, The Empire State Building, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street , Macy's, Tiffany's, NYPD, Yellow Cabs, Broadway and the Rockerfeller Centre. These are the ingredients which come together in whirlwind of sights, sounds and experiences.
Grandeur, sophistication, elegance and tradition are key words associated with a cruise on board Cunard Queen Mary 2. Expect to dress for dinner, meet interesting people and be pampered with legendary Cunard White Star service. The Queens Ballroom is the venue for a range of themed balls throughout your cruise, a champagne cocktail party with the captain and is also where superlative afternoon tea is served by white gloved waiters on fine bone china. Enjoy fish & chips in the Golden Lion Pub, an Al Fresco lunch at the Boardwalk Café and peruse fine works of art in the Clarendon Art Gallery. There are also shows in the Royal Court Theatre, lectures in the Winter Garden, films in the Planetarium and the opportunity to try your luck in the casino or dance the night away in the G32 Nightclub.
SHOPPING & SIGHTSEEING: As well as amazing prices and a different variety of goods to shop for in Macys and on 5th Ave there is lots of sightseeing to do too in such a short space of time. We recommend combining both activities at the same time in a sweep from North to South over your 2 days.
The following are ‘Must Do’: Central Park including the Bethesda Fountain & Strawberry Fields memorial. Walk along 5th Avenue from Central Park for a spot of top class shopping; check out the Art Deco Rockerfeller Centre on 50th Street and pop in to view the magnificent interior of Grand Central station on 42nd Street & Park Avenue. Just a couple of blocks south at the southern edge of the Mid Town area on 34th Street you will find Macy’s, Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building.
Hop on the subway down to 23rd St at Madison Square Park to visit the Flatiron building then carry on down to the Ground Zero site and Wall Street. Visit Battery Park at the Southern tip of Manhattan and take some photos of the Statue of Liberty. If you have time - hop on a boat tour via the Statue of Liberty to the museum on Ellis Island. The Empire State Building at sunset is perfect for magnificent views across the city as the lights twinkle on. Finally visit Times Square at night before seeing a show on Broadway.
Fly to New York & Eastbound cruise Back : Fly direct to New York for a 3 night four-star hotel stay - with no concerns about checking in and tiresome overnight flights home - your stay in New York is enhanced. Cruise Westbound & Fly Back: Depart from Southampton for 7 or 8 night’s uninterrupted voyage to New York. An early morning arrival in tune with US time gives you a full day to explore the city on your first day in New York. Stay for 3 nights in a four-star hotel then fly direct home overnight. If you opt for the westbound itinerary you will have about half a day more time than on an eastbound itinerary.
