When your cruise liner docks at a port you want to hit the ground running to squeeze as much from your visit as you can before you depart for the next destination. In this blog post we recommend some top shore excursions on Caribbean cruises to the southern islands.
Grand Cayman
When your ship drops anchor off the port of Georgetown, you will board a tender that will take you to one of the shore’s terminals.
Naturally, you won’t want to miss out on the duty-free shopping that’s available literally a stone’s throw from your point of disembarkation. Grand Cayman is renowned for its wealth and ostentatious luxury. You should get a chance to taste the high life during your stopover here.
Cuddle a Stingray
However, if you want to try something a little different, or if you are traveling with kids and want to give them an experience that will make their friends jealous, plan a trip to Stingray City.
On the sandbar, your children (and you as well depending on your bravado) can swim with and feed the wild stingrays who hang out in droves here. The creatures have no sting but they are among the largest in the entire Caribbean.
Practicalities
You’ll need to charter a private boat to take you from Georgetown to Stingray City. It’s about a 20-minute ride on a fast vessel. There are several good companies who organise guided tours if you don’t want the hassle of arranging the details of your excursion.

Aruba
Caribbean cruises that stop at Aruba provide passengers with a chance to experience the iconic tropical beach experience.
If you have limited time then skip Palm Beach (which is beautiful but congested) and head a little further out to Eagle Beach, which boasts the title of one of the best in the world. Here you will find a picture postcard scene of soft white sand sloping gently to shimmering aquamarine waters.
Spend your day relaxing, trying out some water sports and photographing the sea turtles who cluster around the shoreline trees.
Practicalities
Take buses 10, 10A or 10B from the port Oranjested to reach Eagle Beach. It’s a short ride and the service runs every 15 minutes. Be aware that there are fewer facilities at this location than you might find in more frequented areas.

Curacao
If you choose any Caribbean cruises that stop in Curacao you will quickly discover that the port Willemstad is conveniently located in the midst of many of the island’s top attractions. This means you can pack a wide range of experiences into your shore excursion here.
Caving & Drinking

Practicalities
Public transport on this island is limited so you will need to use taxis to get to the attractions that are further afield. Many taxi drivers will provide guided tour services.
