Mexican Riviera Cruises

Warm weather and an enchanting landscape make the Mexican Riviera truly a pleasure to visit, and there is no better way to enjoy this beautiful region than by exploring it on a cruise.

The Mexican Riviera, on the country’s western coast, offers unspoiled waters and an environment normally associated with islands lying out in the Pacific. Its proximity to the landmasses of both North and South America has made it a magnet for tourists wanting that extra-special holiday. It has also become a popular destination for cruise lovers.

Cruises typically commence (and finish) on the west coast of the United States, such as Los Angeles, San Diego or San Francisco. Ports of call on most of these cruises include exotic sounding places like Mazatlan, Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas and Puerta Vallarto.

The Mexican Riviera is an intriguing place to visit, boasting delightful fishing villages, mountain jungles and coastal resorts with high standards of accommodation.

The region offers many fabulous things to do. There is the opportunity to visit La Quebrada in Acapulco, a cliff famous for diving. Guided tours are available around the larger centres such as Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco, plus canopy tours in the rainforests and even the chance to swim with dolphins.

One of the most popular places to visit on most of the voyages will be Acapulco. While the brave-hearted will be eager to dive from the La Quebrada cliffs, the city also has some of the most renowned beaches in Mexico. They are Los Hornos, Condesa, Caletilla, and Caleta, and all are popular for those with a taste for water sports and sailing.

For those wanting to add that extra touch of romance to their holiday, Cabo San Lucas offers plenty of promise. Hailed as a town for partying, it is home to the renowned ‘Lovers Beach.’ For others not so romantically inclined, Cabo San Lucas is also famous for scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing, and marlin fishing.

Travellers keen to engage in some holiday shopping, whether for souvenirs or merely self-indulgence, will enjoy a visit to the island of Catalina. The town of Avalon on the island boasts a variety of boutiques on its quaint avenues. Historically, Avalon was a popular retreat for the stars from Hollywood over half a century ago. One of the legacies from that era is the casino, famed for its art deco architecture. The roulette wheel there no longer spins, but it is still a major attraction for tourists.

Ensenada, Mazatlan and Puerta Vallarto are other enticing resort centres in a region that has become the world’s fourth most popular cruise destination.

A large variety of cruises are on offer to the Mexican Riviera, operated by well-renowned cruise companies. Durations range from seven to 21 days and may include a period staying on land at one of the area’s coastal resorts, typically one to three nights. Return flights from the UK are usually included in the package.
