Carnival Cruises
Carnival Horizon is a bold, beautiful ship jam-packed with activities, dining options, and bars and lounges galore. The cruise ship is sophisticated and modern, though with Carnival's take on those concepts, which includes bold colors, bright spaces and a heavy dose of fun. The scene is set from the moment you step onboard, where live music and enthusiastic crew members greet you in the ship's main atrium, which is built around a brilliant LED funnel called the Dreamscape. The digital sculpture changes often throughout the day, and it's simply mesmerizing. Families will adore the Carnival Horizon cruise, which boasts a huge variety of cabins for multiple passengers and larger groups, nighttime babysitting, a flashy splash park, outdoor and indoor activities, and great kids clubs. Dining rooms feature kids menus and some of the specialty restaurants include reduced prices for kids under 12.
Stateroom Accommodation
All cabins on Carnival Horizon include beds, telephone, hair dryer, safe, unstocked mini-fridge, interactive flat-screen television and individual climate control. (We're not crazy about the hair dryer option, which is 1,200 watts and permanently affixed to the drawer in the desk. It also lacks a diffuser and requires you to hold the button the entire time you use it. If you're worried about hairstyling while sailing, we recommend packing your own.) Most cabins feature twin beds that can be combined for one king-sized bed, but a handful can't be converted and offer options such as two twins, a twin and an upper berth (where a bed lowers from the ceiling) or a twin plus convertible sofa bed.
Dining Options
There are ten included restaurants on Carnival Horizon, all serving tasty free food. Options range from plentiful buffets to Mongolian and Italian cuisine. A 24-hour snack bar and free room service items means passengers won’t ever go hungry. Meridian (Decks 3 and 4, aft) and Reflections (Deck 3, midship) Restaurants: Meridian and Reflections serve as Carnival Horizon's main dining rooms. Meridian is open for breakfast, brunch on sea days, and dinner, while Reflections is only open for dinner. While dinner is the same at both restaurants, Meridian is the ship's option for flexible "Your Time" dining, at which passengers can eat anytime in the evening. During peak times you might have to wait for a seat.
Liquid Lounge serves as Carnival Horizon's main theater. Covering two levels, it's a bit of a departure from traditional cruise ship theaters, in part because it's designed specifically to host the ship's Playlist Productions, which include LED special effects. The shows are a fun mix of music and technology (including aroma-infused sets), but sight lines are troublesome, especially in back, where you're battling large, silver pillars. If you want to see everything -- unobstructed -- arrive early. If you get there later and find an empty seat, chances are, it's got poor sightlines.

Aruba
Aruba is situated just 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela at the Southern end of the Caribbean. This island is just 5 Miles wide by 19 Miles long so getting around does not take long and is relatively in-expensive. The north side of the island has an exposed rocky coast while the south coast has the soft white sand beaches, great shopping, stunning sea and desert landscape views. All of this can be experienced from the capital Oranjestad with its heavy Dutch influences. The closet beaches to the capital are Surfside Beach and Druif Beach both with soft white sand. Aruba is a mecca for American tourist and beach holidays. Ships moor at the quayside and it is a short walk into town.
Curaçao
This volcanic island is sandwiched in between Bonaire and Aruba and is lies in the far South of the Caribbean just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela. The capital Willemstad is a cosy Dutch haven with its neat row houses which are 17th and 18th century Dutch colonial buildings. Visit the Hato Caves formed from coral reefs, the freshwater waterfall and Shete Boka National Park with its limestone tidal cavern. The Ostrich Farm is the largest outside of Africa where you can feed the birds and watch the Ostrich dance. Best souvenir buys are Delft pottery and of course the Sapphire Blue Liqueur Curacao.
La Romana, Dominica
La Romana is home to the famous Casa de Campo resort, internationally renowned golf courses, a world-class marina and Altos de Chavn, a beautiful replica of a 16th-century artisan village.
