Overview
Travel on board the Rocky Mountaineer to Kamloops, in the heart of British Columbias interior. As you journey west and south you will be surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide and by the river valleys of the Monashee and Cariboo mountains. Todays highlights include Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at 3,954 meters (12,972 feet), Pyramid Falls, the climb over Yellow head Pass and the journey along the North Thompson River as you approach Kamloops.
Your journey continues west towards the Pacific Ocean and the coastal city of Vancouver. On today's journey you will again see dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of the interior, through winding river canyons and pristine forests, to the Coast and Cascade mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser River Valley. Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier, Alaska
Your journey through scenic Endicott Arm Fjord ends with a front-row view of Dawes Glacier. Standing over 600 feet tall and a half-mile wide, this very active icecap is known for its spectacular calving displays which produce huge, chunky icebergs that float in area waters.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Ketchikan is known as the Salmon capital of the world, is a quaint village, 3 miles long, just 3 blocks wide and wedged between the water and the forested slopes of Deer Mountain. The native American village is partly propped up on wooden pilings and the Totem Heritage centre houses more totem poles than anywhere else in the world. Perhaps or take a tour of the surrounding area with a very good chance of spotting majestic bald eagles that soar effortless over the inlet in their search for salmon.
